The Buffalo Bills and New York Jets rivalry dates back to 1960, with the Bills leading the series 54-49.
The Jets are coming off the bye at 5-4. They are ready to launch the second half of the season.
Jets players out Jeremy Kerley and Garrett McIntyre.
Bills players out Stevie Johnson and Robert Woods.
Jets Defense vs Bills Offense
Bills quarterback EJ Manuel had a terrible game last week. The Bills went 1-5 following a 2-2 start. They are unraveling and struggling to win games. The injuries have been the start of their issues. Manuel’s injury is just the start, as now injuries have hampered two key receivers.
WR Stevie Johnson and rookie WR Robert Woods are out with injuries. This is going make it tough on the Bills to throw the ball. They will depend on the running attack to win the game.
The Jets defense is standing in the way of Bills running the ball. The Jets defense has gotten a lot better since their last game against the Bills. The Jets defense is #1 against the run allowing an average of 73.8 yards per game.
The Jets front seven plans on making it a rough day for Manuel. The last meeting they sacked him eight times. They should shut down the run game and with the Bills’ top weapons down, expect more sacks for the Jets defense.
The Jets defense line has become a tremendous factor. The leadership of DE Muhammad Wilkerson has made the 2013 Jets defense hit high numbers in sacks. This stat through nines games is at 27 sacks. The solid defense in 2010 had only 20 sacks after nine games.
However, the Jets secondary have been struggling all year. They added a veteran to secondary to give them a shot in the arm. Future Hall of Fame safety Ed Reed is now a Jet.
Coach Rex Ryan has chemistry with Reed. This could be a strategic move to create turnovers. The veteran safety, who was released by the Houston Texans on Tuesday, agreed to terms with the Jets two days later.
Jets RT Austin Howard has blocked and handled the Bills’ Mario Williams every time he’s faced him. According to Espn.com, Rex said about Howard, “He did a phenomenal job this year and last year, too, and everybody thought Mario was getting doubled. No, he was getting doubled by Austin’s left arm and his right arm.”
The second half of the season will tell us about Jets quarterback Geno Smith’s character. Smith has an opportunity to earn the number one QB position for years to come. The Jets remaining opponents have a combined 28-34 with a winning percentage of 45%.
The Jets running attack has shown great growth. They have a valuable one-two punch, and the bye week has recharged them. Expect to see the Jets use the running game to finish games.
Here come the wide receivers and the strength in the passing game. WR Santonio Holmes, TE Kellen Winslow, and TE Jeff Cumberland are back.
Can you envision David Nelson having a big game?
According to Espn.com Nelson said, “Anybody who tells you, when they play an old team or a team that cut them, that it’s just another game is lying to you,” he said. “This is definitely more than just another game for me. It’s going to be an emotional game. It’s going to be a fun game. This game holds a little more in my heart than most others.”
Nelson found out he was cut by the Bills via twitter. He took it personally and is out to prove to the Bills he was worth believing in.
