David Nelson missed the first week of OTAs due to a scary illness he picked up in Haiti. All that was being reported was he had illness last week, and it was clearly more than a common cold.
Nelson had a bug when he got bit by a mosquito in Haiti doing charity work. He is very good character player who is very much involved in a lot charity work.
After coming down with a 104-degree fever and strep throat, the Jets trainers told him to stay away and get better. He recovered and returned this week to practice.
Nelson is competing for the No. 2 wide receiver position. Last year he came in the middle of the season. Lining him up next to Eric Decker will give the Jets’ new-look receiving unit. Before his time with New York, he was a solid No. 3 in Buffalo.
