Christa’s Scouting Report: Kevin White

Overview: White is a red shirt senior who plays cornerback for TCU. He currently takes over the role as the top cornerback with Jason Verrett being drafted in the first round by the San Diego Chargers. During his junior year, White finished as one of the top 10 players in his conference in interceptions as well as pass breakups. His best game so far in his career was against West Virginia, where he shutdown wide receiver Kevin White by holding him to only 3 catches for 28 yards.

Strengths: Great body control and has great coverage skills. A physical player. Smart. Great tackler. Great athleticism. A very consistent play maker who has solid performances against team’s #1 wide receiver.

Weaknesses: Questionable hands. Size is a concern which may prevent him from being more than a nickel cornerback going into the NFL.

My NFL comparison: Miami Dolphins cornerback Brent Grimes.

Projected Round (2015): Between a 3rd and a 4th round draft pick.

Bottom Line: A great mid value pick who possess the tools to be a successful starting cornerback in the NFL. After the departure of Verrett, White stepped up as the team’s #1 cornerback. He has had success shutting down teams #1 leading wide receiver in college football. Perfect for a team that needs help or needs to upgrade their secondary. Can easily contribute and be a stating slot cornerback for a cornerback needy team.
