Christa’s Scouting Report: Todd Gurley

Overview: Todd Gurley is currently a junior from the University of Georgia. A great leader who was an offensive and a special team’s captain while playing for Georgia. Although he only played 6 games this season he ran for 911 yards and had 9 touchdowns.

Strengths: A powerful and a physical runner who can hurdle and break tackles to gain more yardage. Possess great speed. Great and reliable hands can catch balls off the backfield. Versatile can also contribute on special teams.

Weaknesses: Vision is inconsistent, has to be more patient when running routes. Route running is questionable can use some work. Durability is a concern has a history of injuries.

My NFL Comparison: A combination of New York Jets running back Chris Ivory and Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch. Why these two? Because Gurley shares similar skill sets and running techniques with both Ivory and Lynch. Like these two running backs, he is also a bruiser type that can break tackles, and possess explosive speed.

Projected Round (2015): Between a 2nd and a 3rd round pick. Due to his four game suspension in regards of a memorabilia related violation against the NCAA and his knee injury. His ACL injury may make team’s leery of drafting him earlier.

Bottom Line: Gurley is an extremely talented running that has all of the traits and skills to be a starting running back in the NFL. Fits the role as a starting running back if he can stay healthy. Perfect for a team that is looking for a talented and versatile running back to contribute on their team.
