Christa’s Scouting Report: Randy Gregory

Overview: Randy Gregory is a junior from Nebraska. Since he started his career at Nebraska, Gregory has been awarded with numerous honors for his talent such as winning defensive MVP for his team in 2013, been on numerous watch lists such as Walter Camp and the Lombardi watch list. Most coaches and players would describe Gregory as of the most disruptive forces out of the big ten conference on defense. Gregory will enter the NFL draft with 120 tackles, 17.5 sacks, and 2 interceptions within his two years of playing for Nebraska.

Strengths: A day 1 starter. A great athlete. Quick burst, sometimes teams in college had to double or triple team him in order to stop from getting to the quarterback. Talented behind the line of scrimmage. Great vision and instincts on the field. Explosive, has a higher motor.

Weaknesses: Undersized. Needs to bulk up before he enters the NFL. Off field issues. Durability.

My NFL Comparison: Browns outside linebacker Barkevious Mingo. Why Mingo? Both have a similar body frame and the same style of play. However I do feel Gregory has a higher ceiling if he can manage to get his head straight and focus on football.

Projected Round (2015): A top 10 talent, however due to his failed drug test it may impact his draft stock. Teams with a high draft pick may be scared to take a gamble on drafting high. I expect him to be drafted anywhere from a mid 1st round pick to a late first round pick.

Bottom Line: Although Gregory is a boom or bust player. He is extremely talented that has freakish abilities who can be an impact starter for a team in need of a pass rusher. Will be a draft steal for a team who selects him that is not in the top ten.
