Overview: Brent Qvale is an offensive tackle from Nebraska, who is currently on the New York Jets. He started for 18 games for Nebraska.
Strengths: Has ideal size at OL. Strong, Quick moves around fantastic for his size. Athletic, tough and a physical football player. A good pass blocker. Great vision knows how to protect the quarterback. Gives great effort during every play.
Weaknesses: Footwork needs a lot of work. Not the best run blocker. Not the best blocker, occasionally whiffs on blocks.
How he fits the New York Jets: Aside from the quarterback position, the Jets offensive line is the next weakness on the Jets offense. Although he listed as an offensive tackle Qvale has the skill sets and traits more suitable for guard role. During mini camp he was awarded first team reps at guard and has been doing well flashing his skills to the new coaching staff. He brings much-needed competition at the guard position and can challenge Colon and Aboushi for more playing time at the guard position.
Bottom Line: He has the size and physical traits you want an offensive lineman, however he still has a lot of work to do if he wants a chance to start at guard. Qvale has a good work ethic and upside to potentially see more starting reps however there are still parts of his game that is still raw.
