Exclusive Interview with 2016 NFL Draft Prospect, Larry Butler III

Overview: Larry Butler III is a very versatile linebacker who can play multiple positions on defense, including inside linebacker and outside linebacker. He can also play in every defensive scheme. He has the speed and strength that teams want in a linebacker. In other words, he’s a small school prospect who will be a name to remember.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Larry, during which he told me more about his background, his personality and his overall love for football.

Crimson Storm

Christa: For the people who do not know your story, how did you wind up choosing Southern Nazarene University to play football?

Larry Butler III: To make a long story short, my Division 1 eligibility was short when I finished with JUCO, so I had to go the Division 2 route. SNU fit me perfectly football-wise and school-wise.

C: Since you are from a smaller school, how do you plan on making yourself stand out and noticed by NFL scouts?

LB: By continuing to dominate my competition for another season and continuing to promote myself.

C: What would you say are your three biggest strengths that you can bring to an NFL team?

LB: My work ethic, passion, and overall intensity.

C: If you can be any super hero who would it be and why?

LB: I’d be Vegeta from Dragon Ball Z. We have the same mentality; no one will stop us.

C: How do you prepare for game day? Do you have any game day rituals?

LB: Just a lot of praying.

C: What was your favorite moment/favorite play at Southern Nazarene University?

LB: October 25th when I sacked the Arkansas Monticello QB for a 16 yard loss.

C: Which current or former NFL do you think you most resemble and why?

LB: Vontaze Burfict, not the tallest or fastest but makes big plays.

C: Which player would you like to be compared to in 10 years and why?

LB: Ray Lewis because he is the greatest in many peoples’ opinions.

C: As you prepare for the 2016 draft, what are your goals your final year of college?

LB: 125 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, 2-5 sacks, and an interception.
