The Miami Dolphins are firing coach Philbin, according to NFL Media Insider, Ian Rapoport has reported, according to a team source.
The decision to part ways with the embattled coach comes after a 27-14 loss to the Jets in London. However, this most recent loss was the final straw of a very long start to the season for Miami. The team had its worst loss in a home opener in franchise history, as the Bills defeated them 41-14.
The Dolphins had perhaps the highest expectations for improvement in 2015, following a massive offseason. However, the expensive defensive line has failed to cause much pressure at all, and the offense has struggled just as much in moving the ball.
NFL Media’s Rand Getlin has reported that Dolphins tight end coach Dan Campbell is the favorite to take on the job, as it appears the team will remain in-house with its new coach.
