Anthony Patrick is a linebacker entering his senior season for Bethel University. A hard-hitter, Anthony displays exceptional tackling technique and anticipation for the Bethel defense. As a 2019 NFL Draft prospect, the linebacker will try to build on a very promising junior season.
I had the pleasure of interviewing Anthony, during which time he more about his background, his personality, and his love for the sport of football.
When did you first fall in love with the sport of football?
I was around 10 years old when I started playing football I was addicted to the game.
Growing up, who was your role model inside of the sport, and who was your role model outside of it?
Patrick Willis is my role model I love how he played the game. His intensity is unmatched I model my game after him. My mother was my role model outside of sports. Just how she handle adversity was inspiring to watch. I picked up on that and now I always hurdle obstacles in front of me because of her drive to be successful.
What is the most inspirational or powerful thing a coach has ever said to you?
“Don’t let someone else write your story, believe hard work will pay off.”
What is your biggest strength, and what is something you are working to improve?
My biggest strength is my reaction time diagnosing plays before it happen. I am working to improve all of my abilities at linebacker. I have the mindset that nothing is ever good enough can’t be satisfied.
Which current of former NFL player do you feel you resemble?
I resemble Danny Trevathan linebacker for the Chicago Bears. How he plays the game aggressive, high motor, being able to diagnose plays before it happen. Getting off lineman’s at the point of attack and being physical. When I turn on his film I see a great similarity of our game play!
If an NFL scout were to walk up to you and give you 10 seconds to sell yourself, what would you say?
I’m a guy that has a great work ethic. I always have the burning desire to be successful in everything I do. Football is not just a game to me it’s a direct correlation of life. I play every snap like it’s my last. Just like I live life everyday like It’s my last day. If you turn on film you will feel that same energy about me!
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Playing professional football and having a non profit organization. Mentoring kids and pushing them into their destiny.
Finally, what is something about you off the field that makes you a better player on it?
I use football as a platform to speak to others. I realize my life is bigger than myself so I have the mindset of being a blessing to others. I love volunteering being around team work. Just communicating working together to achieve a common goal makes me a great player on the field.
We at Locker Room Update wish Anthony the best of luck as he enters his senior season. You can check out his highlights here.
